The leading men of films take away up to 50 percent of a film’s production cost. The leading stars of the South are almost getting paid like their Bollywood counterparts while some are steadily climbing the salary ladder. The following are some of the big names from the southern film industries and their paychecks.
Rajinikanth: The Tamil icon has remained the top paid star in the south for years now. For his last film ‘Kochadaiyaan’ , he received a whopping Rs. 30 crore.
Kamal Hassan: closely following the heels of Rajini is Tamil megastar Kamal Hassan, counted as one of India’s best actors. He received a salary of Rs. 25 crore for his film ‘Vishwaroopam.’
Pawan Kalyan: The Telugu star is firmly established as one of the highest paid actors in the South. For his upcoming film ‘Gabbar Singh 2’, he is reportedly getting paid Rs. 18 crore.
Vijay: considered a superstar of Tamil cinema, he charges around Rs.18 crore per film after the back to back success of ‘Thuppakki’ and ‘Nanban’.
Suriya: the actor behind the successful ‘Singam’ franchise, Suriya also has a salary in the range of 18 crore rupees.
Ajith Kumar: often called ‘box office king’, Ajith Kumar has a very strong fan base in the south and it is reflected in his salary of Rs. 18 crore.
Mahesh Babu: he is the second highest paid actor of Telugu cinema and overall one of the highest paid in the entire south. For his latest film ‘Aagadu’, he got paid Rs. 16 crore remuneration.
NTR junior: coming from an illustrious film family N. T Rama Rao junior is quickly becoming a mainstay of the Telugu industry. For his film ‘Rabhasa’ he got paid around Rs. 14 crore.
Vikram: one of the most recognizable faces from the South, Vikram enjoys a fan base across all of South India. For his latest film he is reportedly earning Rs. 12 crore.
Ram Charan Teja: son of Telugu icon Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan Teje is one of the top younger stars of the industry. For the film ‘Govindudu Andarivadele’ he was reportedly paid Rs. 12 crore.
Prabhas: known as Telugu film industry’s ‘rebel’ star, Prabhas is earning Rs. 10 crore for acting in the mega budget film ‘Baahubali’.
Allu Arjun: Young Telugu star Allu Arjun is also very popular in Kerala. His last release was the film ‘Race Gurram’ for which he was given Rs. 10 crore salary.
Dhanush: son-in-law of the Icon Rajinikanth, Dhanush is one those rare stars whose career is progressing simultaneously in both Bollywood and the south. After his Bollywood success he is earning a salary of Rs. 8 crore.
Simbu: Simbu or Silambarasan is an emerging star in Tamil films. he is reportedly getting paid Rs. 8 crore for films like ‘Kaaka Muttai’ and ‘Vaalu’.
Karthi: Suriya’s younger brother Karthi is trying to make it on his own and despite some flops he is still earning Rs. 8 crore per film.
Ravi Teja: the actor has earned the nick name of ‘mass maharaja’ in the Telugu film industry. For his film ‘Power’ he is earning Rs. 7 crore.
Sudeep: the highest paid actor of the Kannada industry, his salary has reached 6 crore mark.
Puneet Rajkumar: another star of Kannada cinema, he earns in the range of Rs 5 crore.
