Success is measured by numbers these days. In Bollywood, the benchmark index to measure the success of any movie is 100 crore. If a movie manages to pass that bar, it is considered a super hit. It is also a matter of great shame if an established star cannot make it past that yardstick. Shah Rukh Khan, the badshah of Bollywood had been receiving a rather lukewarm response from the audiences in India over the past few years. Though he has quite many movies in the 100 crore club, the zenith of excellence in these matters was occupied by Aamir Khan and Salman Khan with their movies 3 Idiots and Ek Tha Tiger.
Recently, young gun Ranbir Kapoor’s movie Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani grossed 190 cr. It was imperative of the King Khan to come up with something to put up a fight against all of them. The result was Chennai Express which has the actor doing everything from comedy to action to sporting his aviators. Sanity might be lost in the movie but unprecedented money has been earned in the process. CE entered the 100 cr club in less than 4 days, a record in this country. It keeps going strong and shows no signs of retreat as of now.
