Vidya Balan to play writer Kamala Surayya in Malayalam film

Vidya Balan was in news after walking out of some Bollywood projects this year. But looks like people in Mollywood are luckier. News has come out that Vidya is ready to make a comeback to the Malayalam film industry. The film will see her portray the role of famous Malayalam/ English author and poet, Kamala Surayya. Her works in both the languages have received acclaim from readers and critics alike. In 1984 Kamala Surayya also known by her pen name Kamala Das, was shortlisted for the Nobel Prize for Literature. The director of the film, Kamal has said that when he began thinking about a face to play the role of thw writer, he could only think of Vidya Balan. Kamal reportedly met Vidya at an event and discussed the project with him to which she expressed interest. Vidya is also half Malaya by birth and therefore naturally suited to play the role.

The director will begin working on the project after the release of his film withMammootty in September. The film is likely to be released in 2015. Kamal has revealed the fact that he made a film in Malayalam with Vidya 10 years ago that would have marked her debut in Mollywood. But unfortunately the film did not get released due to various reasons.
